CERN Physics before the LHC... 😛
If you get bored during any personal "lockdown"?
BBC Horizon: "The Geneva Event" -- Discovery of W/Z Bosons. 😎
Not TOO many Whizzes & Bangs... 80's (Physicist!) Fashions... Smoking still allowed... 😁

Apologies... Off topic... the 'magnet factory/test facility' had some very, very low temperatures and pressures displayed on the test rigs... just WOW....

CERN is also involved in AMS (Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer) via ISS... looking for dark matter etc.  also a good visit.

Just discovered that Nuclear Physics B(!) has a "Greatest Hits" page... 😎
https://www.journals.elsevier.com/nuclear-physics-b/featured-articles/physics-letters-b-and-nuclear-physics-b-historical-articles
The results from the above experiment are published in two of these.

Of course, "Nuclear Physics" is not just (so much) NP these days etc. 😛

In the interest of balance... I'm not sure where Astronomers publish? 🤔

<thinks> How many STEM'ers chuckle at the number of times their
department / subject / JOB etc. has been renamed over the years?!? 😁

I was lucky enough to visit CERN a couple of years ago, whilst it was stopped for upgrading.  Here's some pictures of their first accelerator.  The red thing is the magnet.

  • 1 month later...

I see they (Science... everyone!) plan for a "return to normality"...
Meanwhile a few more Physics Videos. (They are good at those!) 🥳

(Inter)national LABs are something worthwhile following on Twitter etc. 😎
