I'm new

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm new to the world of astronomy, and I have recently got a Celestron Astromaster 130 EQ. I am interested in viewing planets, particularly Jupiter and Saturn. I have a few questions. What sort of eyepiece is good for viewing planets. I have heard 10mm and 20mm mentioned, but I don't know what these numbers mean. Are there any general rules to go by for eyepieces, what is best for planet viewing?

Also, what season is best for viewing? It is summer over here right now and things aren't as clear as I remembered in winter. Is there any season that offers the clearest skies?

Thankyou
