Thanks Ian, he was born not far from where I grew up back in NZ. Anyway he spent most his life in the UK and the work he did at Cambridge certainly added to that institutions reputation so I think there's just as much relevance to the UK as there is to NZ. :D

Hello Sam

Your quite right to be proud of your fellow countryman he was a great pioneering scientist and added hugely to our knowledge of physics Sportsmen come and go and their names slowly fade from memory but people like Rutherford remain immortal so great is their contribution. My wife's cousin actually works at the labs named after him the Appleton Rutherford Laboratories near Abingdon in Oxfordshire strange that his laboratories should be in oxford when he was a cambridge man
