eq5 goto extender

Hi all

Using a 130pds for imaging pushes the scope back a bit that means it gets close to the pod legs , looking at a extender to raise the scope mount about 4-5 would eleviate this problem unfortunately the eq5 extender is 70 cm. which means u could well need a stall to place scope on .

Has anyone found away or a extender to raise it 10-15 cm only.

I do have a welder mate but this could be a little crude ( hes a banger racer) .

Thanks

I cut down a SW standard riser using a friends lathe, reduced to 7" or 170mm
You could perhaps find an engineering shop that would do the same for you.

I did wander if the eq6 extender would work 8 inch .

Baffles me as to why Skywatcher doesn’t produce a shorter pillar extension. It’s not as if they need to make special parts. 🤔

Baffles me too John, I take it the EQ6 tube is the same as my own cut down job, just the  ends changed.
If this was BL in the day, quick parts bin raid and new model delivered!

Hi all so I'm having something similar to the top of this made up should I go for 4 bolts or 3 bolts  ? 8mm steel so it's not going to flex with either of them . Advice please .

Thanks

3 or 4 it will work fine, but note that there is a myth that in order to get perfect polar alignment its important that the mount base is level, its just not true.  Hence all you need is sufficient clearance to get a spanner in and tighten the mount centre bolt, the shorter those pillars the better, you don't need to be able to adjust it for level. So long as its not miles out of level there is nothing that will stop you getting polar alignment using the normal Az and El adjustment on the scope.

Don’t need to do any welding as it’s just a plain tube. Drill three new bolt holes in the side at the cut end and job done.

Sadly not John, the tube inner diameter after cut is not the same as the insert and needs rounding and opening a tad.

So far 3 mtr pipe £10

4 threaded rods 75cm and bolts washers £16

2x 8mm steel discs £10 awaiting price for drilling holes

looks like it’s gonna be less than £100 😀

should I run power ?

I would not bother assuming you have already got an outside power socket. Its a 1 min job to run an extention to the pier.
