TEC Cooling in the field

Recommended Posts

Hi there, probably being a bit dosey but was just trying to work out how to power TEC cooled camera in the field. I know you can use a mains adapter for it but how would I go about adapting this for using on a filed battery? Would I need to use an Inverter?

All TEC cooled cameras run on 12V... so a 12 V battery will do the job, capacity depending on other equipment you want to use like dew straps, mount, what ever else you need. So no need to use an inverter when using a 12V battery.

Just a direct connection to the battery (preferably via fuses) will work. Several types of batteries can be used. The normal car battery is the least desirable, LiFePO4 the most.

Thanks Waldemar, the only 12v adapters I can find are with mains plugs on. Do I just need one with a cigar connector so it will plug into my field battery? (Have the SkyWatcher power tank). Sorry, electrical stuff is not my forte!

You could use something like this? The ZWO camera I have uses a 2.1mm x 5.5mm plug. Would need a decent length though. Can also change the fuse in the cigar plug for the correct one needed for the camera.

That looks like the ticket :)

Thanks for the helping hand

That IS the ticket ?

Most people have a problem with electricity... It is kind of abstract... it's hard to understand, you can't see it, can't hear it and if you feel it, very often it's too late ?
