Dear all,

today I set up my Lunt telescope to have a look at active region 2736. It is awesome in H alpha light! cool.gif Here's my natural charcoal sketch of the whole solar disc:

Telescope: Lunt LS 50 THa B600 PT
Eyepiece: Celestron X-cel 10mm
Date & Time: March 21st, 2019 / 1200-1230 CET
Location: home terrace, Dusseldorf region, Germany
Technique: natural charcoal on white Hahnemühle Ingres mould-made pastel paper

Afterwards I set up the 70/420 ED with Solar filter and had a look at the region in white light. This is looking great as well.

Clear skies in spring time to all of you!

Certainly nothing weird about the sketch though Achim.
I have a great respect for sketchers of  Astro Targets,
Details are almost always very good to extraordinarily good, as in this
Solar work of yours. Very good indeed and well done.
I've never tried sketching, I don't think my patience would be tolerant enough,
or my concentration either.
Keep up your good work in this field. :icon_salut:

Hi all,

thanks a lot for the great feedback and the likes!

@Ron: Just give it a try with sketching. For me it's always relaxing - except when the moon is going to hide behind the neighbor house in some minutes...

Hi Mr Niall,

thanks a lot for the feedback!

Actually I learned that technique just step by step:

I started with chalk and charcoal pens on black paper for lunar sketches. Which I still do.

After buying a H alpha scope, I tried reddish pastels for solar sketches. Which I still do too.

During last autumn, I took the charcoals from the lunar sketches to sketch the sun. In my opinion, the charcoal produces a quite realistic texture on the pastel paper.

But which pens I take for a particular solar sketch depends pretty much on my daily choice...

Clear skies
