CCD camera, EFW2 and light polution filter

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of moving to CCD imaging having aquired a used Atik 383L+ and EFW2.  With my previous Canon set-up I had a Baader Protective T-ring holding a light polution filter.  I'm presuming (please tell me if I'm wrong) that I will need a light polution filter for use with LRGB filters but not for narrowband Ha, OIII and SII.

So, first question, would using an LP filter cause issues (i.e. downgrade) when narrowband imaging?

If it's best to remove the LP filter for narrowband would this adapter be suitable:

If not is there a better solution?

Thanks,

Do you have a good gradient removal tool in software?

The pick of the bunch is Dynamic Background Extraction in PI used in conjunction with SCNR green.

Then there's Gradient Xterminator, a Photoshop plug-in, and the freebie Hasta La Vista Green from the Deep Sky Colors website.

AstroArt, which is a superb stacking and calibrating package, also has a decent gradient remover.

I would throw Astro Pixel Processor with it's "Light Polution Removal" tool in there as well, although I still feel DBE in PI is superior..

As to filters:

You could use an LP filter in place of the L filter, but I would not add more glass in front of any other filters..
