what filter for galaxies/nebula

Hi how do you know what the best filters are for different  deep sky objects ,ha,r,g,b,etc cheers,take ngc6960 for example (veil nebula)

Good question! I suppose the easiest way is to see what other people have done  But if you want to be technical there are catalogues of emission (and other) nebulae online eg Sharpless and NGC (New General Catalog) . Stellarium's display is quite good for indicating HII regions (user selectable object types). Of course many HII nebulae are well known eg the North America Nebula. I don't know what CdC tells you.

Galaxies are basically LRGB objects but will benefit from Ha to pick up star forming regions and, sometimes, more exotic jets and other nice details.

Emission nebulae are usually dominated by Ha but planetary nebulae tend to be strong in OIII,

about average i think
