Balancing East-Heavy for auto-guiding

Could you please look over these two diagrams and comment as to whether the balancing principles are correctly depicted here, and if not, could you point out where the error is?

I have begun auto-guiding my Star Adventurer and I want to make sure that I am doing the "east heavy" balancing correctly.

Thanks very much,

Hi

Yeah, that's it.

The easiest way to do it is to balance perfectly then mark the position [1] of the counterweight (CW) on the shaft.

If your target dictates the telescope is on the east side of the pier, move the CW 1cm toward the mount.

If west, move the CW away from the mount.

If it flips, make sure you move the CW 2cm.

I would like to simplify things further. Skip the north, south, Polaris, meridian etc. This is what counts :

Always make the RA motor fight a bit against gravity.
