removing a dslr sensor filter for better ha response

i have the d5300 and am toying with the idea of removing the filter from the sensor just not sure on a couple of thing's ie can i just remove it and job done or do i have to replace with a different type of glass filter? i feel i dont have anything to lose by trying i should be able to reinstate the fliter if i decide to reuse the camera for daytime work thanks

As far as I'm aware you don't need to replace it but the autofocus won't work anymore if you don't. 

You can always try to find a YouTube video that explains the modification process

If you look up camera modding there will be a few  that do Canon's and few a far between that do nikon, a friend asked Juan from cheapastrophotography  to do his Nikon and he said it was far too difficult.. There is someone that' just had his Nikon modded..can see if I can get his number if you like?
