Definitely keep it very snug.  If you put a heavy eyepiece or binoviewer in it at an angle (for viewing from the side, for instance), it can unscrew itself, flip upside-down, and drop whatever's in the eyepiece end of things on the ground because the screw on that end wasn't tightened very much.  How do I know this?  Experience. :crybaby2:

Hi Paul, I had the same problem with mine, which came as standard with the ED100. Unfortunately it wouldn't tighten completely, I assume that a thread had gone. I "cured" it with  a very carefully applied tiny smear of Araldite. It has not worked loose since but I have replaced it with another diagonal on the ED100.
