Yup, I think we all resort to that in the finish just to get some extra use - I made mine, but the same thought chain - as FLO probably told you, don't forget to remove your finder scope when you use the filter unless you have got suitable protection for it.

Yes, Martin was very descriptive when he talked about melted lenses dripping over the OTA. 
He got his point across very well indeed!
