Ngc 5566 is a small galaxy in the constellation Virgo, at a distance of about 65 Mly.

It is in the Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies (ARP) as nr 286, and the Uppsala Galaxy Catalogue as nr 9175

Size: 4.4 x 1.5 arc minutes.

Data from the Liverpool Telescope, la Palma; processed in PixInsight (2 m mirror, f/10, 0.3 "/pixel)

Quite noisy, as data was limited: only 8 subs in Blue and Green (each), and 6 subs in Red. A mix of 60 and 90 seconds exposures. Estimated total integration time less than half an hour.

The other galaxies are ngc 5569 (top) and ngc 5560 (bottom).

Thought so to. The galaxies differ also very much in appearance and colour. Unfortunately, the LT data can't be framed differently. That's the (minor) downside with public data.

Excellent Wim, especially with such limited data!

It now looks so much better than the first version you posted on Astrobin - obviously you pulled out some nice tricks in PI.

Not sure I would describe  half an hour on a 2 metre telescope limited data! That's about 200hrs on a 4".

Otoh, the subs are noisy. So, 8 of each is still a lot of noise. Especially in the blue channel.

Thanks. The first version was just a quick stretch. Not much else, processing wise.

The version posted here involved a lot more. Noise reduction was tricky.
