Evostar 80ED for a beginner ?

Recommended Posts

Inside the same model, what really changes is the controller (syntrek or synscan) or the new "R" model which comes with the belt mod.

I bought my EQ6 Syntrek (no goto without being connected to a  PC) a year ago, if a would buy now would got for a EQ6-R.

Jan 2017... hmmm where did everyone go?  This thread caught my eye because I am in the very exact situation deciding an imaging refractor.  I just received my HEQ5 Pro mount.  Let me tell you that in itself was a thinking process!
That link that shows the basic differences is great I can pass that along to some others that are also curious.

The Sony a6000 DSLR camera with a 35mm looks a little dainty on this mount alone 😜.  Well they say never too much mount so over-mount it!

I am looking at the SW 80ED or maybe the 100.  Just can't decide really it's that or one of the Apertura models but folks seem to really praise the 80ED.  Eventually guiding is what I want so the fact you can use the existing finder is appealing to me.
I already own a 10" Dob (Apertura) and it's really nice and dialed in with the Meade 5000 UWA EP's.  So, this caught my eye as I just inquired with Skywatcher yesterday what my best options for imaging were within a certain budget.
They responded pretty quickly with "Evostar 72ED (420mm focal length) and Evostar 80ED (600mm) focal length."

He said I'd eventually want the corrector and that I would need to be informed on the proper back focus distance for my T adapter (since I will be using the APS-C crop sensor).
I won't be purchasing just yet but here by the end of the year or sooner.
