2 new (to me) bits of kit on one day and it looks like a clear night as well  - what have I done to deserve this :)

The Vixen ED102SS now has a nice mount - also with the Vixen name on it and the mighty Nagler Type5 31mm arrived today as well - what a handfull

The Nagler is shown with a Panoptic 24mm and a KK Widescan III 30mm for scale - it's a bit of a beast !:

Wonderful toys indeed John. They look scrumptious. Be gentle with us when you divulge the description of the views you will soon be feasting your eyes on. Serve them to us a little at a time,

I don't wish to be ill with chronic envy. :)

Thanks folks. A little use this evening has dispelled my concern that the Nagler 31mm would be too heavy for my scopes - it is heavy but the focussers handle it OK - the Skywatcher crayford (on the 8 inch dob) will need to be tightened a little to ensure no slippage but so far so good :)

The Portamount tracked Jupiter really well at 138x and 184x - a pleasure to use in fact and no need to re-set the motion every now and then as I had to with the AZ-3. Nice ....

There is a thin high cloud layer here at the moment which is getting in the way of deep space work unfortunately - but at least I can see stars which is a refreshing change.

Jesus! That eyepiece is bigger than my scope. . . .

Anyone know of a pic of a 31mm Nagler in a 66mm?

An aside: It would only give 12.5x and give 6.5* of sky!

Andrew

Here's a UWAN 28mm (similar size to the Nagler 31) in a WO 66mm:
