Hi James. For all my Lunar stuff ( I do 30 or so individual frames of the moons surface and stitch them into one fairly high res lunar 'disc') I use Panorama Plus. It came as free with sky at night magazine and I think it is a free download. Heres one of the results, hope you like. I imagine you're doing the same. I use a EOS 300d dslr myself, suppose I should use a webcam but I don't like the results so much on the moon.

Thanks for the help....tried imerge, but doesn't take .tif files...so i gues i can convert to bmp, but i think i'd lose some data not sure...

How about Photoshop CS3, has a wicked merge tool in it (was in CS2, but was not as good)

Gimp is pretty good for stitching. It's the open source answer to Photoshop - free and amazingly versatile. There's a tutorial on stitching here...

which shows how to correct geometrical distortions, match brightness etc.
