Hi, there are probably several ways of doing it in SGP, but here's one:

Create a target for your object - this has RA & DEC details that will be filled in later...

File / Open Image - select and open the image that you want to use for your target co-ordinates

Right click on the image and plate solve it

When it finds the plate solution the dialog box will ask if you want to save the co-ordinates to a target. Select the target you created earlier and click OK

Hey presto, you have a target with RA & DEC co-ordinates saved. You can centre on the that target any time you like!

Good luck.

If you use Stellarium, find the object you want to slew to, press <ctrl>+c, go to the target dialogue in SGP and <ctrl>+v to paste the coordinates in that way.

You can also set your FOV up in Stellarium and fine tune your framing that way, for example, clicking on a star in between 2 objects in the FOV to evenly frame both objects.

I've found this to be the quickest way.

daft question but how do you reopen the target  gav

The only daft question is the one unasked!

If you click on the settings wheel next to your target in the Target List as per the screen shot here, you can access the various settings for that target.

This is the dialog box that the RA & DEC values go into:

Hope that helps...
