Which EQ mount is best

Hi all,

I am looking around for a second hand mount but cannot make up my mind. Should I get the heq5 or the neq6 there is a couple hundred pounds difference and I know the obvious stuff like the load weights and the actual weights of the mounts.

I am not looking to travel with the mount and hopefully it will be on a permanent pier.

Why should I choose one over the other? I feel that if I go with the heq5 I will save a bit for other gear but would I then end up wanting the neq6 further down the line? but if I go with the heq5 I will more cash for other bits.

Both are great mounts and will support your current telescope very well. I see you're wanting to upgrade from the EQ5, so what specific characteristics are you looking for? This may be the answer to your question.

I am doing much more photography than visual and find that the eq5 is a struggle for managing long exposures. I am also looking to add a guiding scope and this will make the eq5 struggle with the weight.

I would go for the eq6 if your budget can stretch. I get 7 minute subs without tracking. I can't say about Heq5 but know it's easier to move around.
