EQ 3 strange clicking noise - affects imaging

Hello everyone,

I am just writing this in the middle of my session and I have come across this strange clicking noise. It affect s the imaging because the whole scope is jolting. Imaging is impossible because of the vibrations causing trails.

Ifanyone could solve this it would be greatly appreciated.

Loose gear?  Possibly slipping gear or clutch - make sure all the grub screws holding the gears are tight.

The flexible coupling to the motor can make this noise if its loose.

I've had a similar ticking noise with a Celestron mount . Mine was caused by the meshing being to tight. When the mount was tracking it would stop for a split second and then jump which was the ticking noise I assume . I was told after repair the RA locking nut had slipped . Hope that helps

It will be because the scope isn't balanced properly. Check the balance of the scope pointing in the direction you experience the clicking and you will find it's either mirror or focuser heavy.
