Aurora red alert

This has just come through Aurora Watch...  Don't know how long these things last but the activity just shot right up.  Hope the activity stays high until it's dark...

Cloudy and 72% moon. Will be keeping an eye on the sky just in case of a clear spell. Partially clear in West Midlands, where I work. Will be phoning other half to say I'm not coming home tonight!

I would have more faith in Aurorawatch's red alerts if we had them when auroras have been visible over the UK - but yep, fingers crossed, skies should be relatively clear (locally)

That is weird, their web page is showing "Green, no activity", tho there is a little wiggle in the magnetograms.

SpaceWeather is showing Kp=2 Quiet, but ACE did  show a transition 4hrs ago so there could be something about !

I thought it a little strange as well as I haven't noted any real activity from the sun recently.  Ho hum.  You never know....

Hmm, yep - where is the massive red bar on the activity plot around 1300 UTC that triggered the red alert?

The plot thickens ! Spaceweather and WingKP both now up to KP=4 "Unsettled" which is marginal for Scotland

Thanks for that Bathurst, with wall-to-wall clear skies at present I knew it was too good to be true . . .     Ride-on lawnmower?  You couldn't make it up!
