Starry places in UK

Hello.

I'm looking for some really starry places around Birmingham, the closer - the better. I don't own the car so it would be great if you could get there by train or bus. Also some cheap accomodation to stay there a bit longer, not necessarily some quality hotels, just a bed and shower  I looked up a Galloway forest park but the accomodations are quiet far away from the park itself, which might be problematic without a car or bicycle.

Church Stretton for the Long Mynd?

There's a train station in the town...I think from memory from being a previous Salopian,  there is only one change of train from Birmingham New Street...

Plenty of nice little B&Bs there...

Either way, getting out West is best.

from where you are the only way is west...wales or near its boarder with england should provide decent skies...but clear nights cant be planned for...just hoped for!

The top  of the Long Mynd is great bit I recall it to be quite an uphill drive from Church Stretton so it would be tough on foot.

Cannock Chase would be another good spot not too far from  Brum.

Not a problem...certainly a few years back, this place was operating as a guest house... right on the Long Mynd...

The place was up for sale in 2014 but I am not sure if it went as a going concern. Certainly it's worth giving them a ring:

This place is a campsite on the Long Mynd. It gets busy but it is literally on the doorstep. We used to walk through this all the time to access the Long Mynd from the south eastern side..
