Silly question?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking forward to observing the transit on Monday (never observed the Sun before, still yet to make my filter!)

My question is this: How on earth (literally I suppose :icon_biggrin:) do I polar align in broad daylight?

Leaving my mount out overnight is an option, but I'm not really comfortable with that.

Thanks

Someone at the Plymouth astro society had the same problem (they did a mini-talk about their solar scope). I think they just guessed and adjusted the scope every few minutes.

When I set my eq3 stand up which doesn't have a polar finder I level the stand first,  then set the altitude screw to 54 degrees approx, then line it up to north with a compass. This serves OK for observations, so I will be doing the same when I set it up on Monday to observe the transit. :)

Thanks for the replies guys!

Great idea to mark the tripod position the night before.

I guess the solar imaging guys must have permanent setups.
