Has anyone found out how to make The SkyX do a Meridian flip on command?

Recommended Posts

I have tried looking through the Software Bisque web site for help on meridian flips, but found nothing at all. So I am asking here if any one has found a way to force The SkyX do a meridian flip when asked. I do not like the way it will do it in the middle of a sub/ruin the sub because of proximity to limits. In the past I have had to wait for the mount to get to the point at which it flips and so lost imaging time.

Probably me but getting a bit annoyed with not knowing how to force a flip.

Any help appreciated.

Derek

Why don't you ask on the Software Bisque support forum http://www.bisque.com/sc/forums/

How to do it depends on when and why you want to initiate it. Here are two typical answer to a similar questions  http://www.bisque.com/sc/forums/p/10130/37249.aspx#37249     http://www.bisque.com/sc/forums/p/27679/136374.aspx#136374 I don't know if you need to be a forum member to see them.

Thanks Andrew.

I did post a query on the Software Bisque Forum as well. The second link you posted  is the answer I just got from them. I got the email notification late last night and said thanks this morning.  I can't test it as yet but will asap. But many thanks for your efforts to help as it is  much appreciated. It looks like that is the answer to the problem in the short run.

But wouldn't it be nice just to have a button in the program to push labelled "MeridianFlip". Surely it could not be that hard to do!

Hi Daz,

Thanks for your enquiry. I am in the process of setting up for a wider field of view,  the  wife said I could :p

My setup was/is :

WO 132mm 3" rotator, TMB Field Flattener, SXV AO-LF, QSI683wsg.

Now changing to :

Tak 85 BabyQ, Rotator, SXV AO-LF , QSI683wsg.

All on a GM1000HPS, fitted onto a Starbase mount. I know that the GM can track past the meridian a fair bit but there are times when the rotator will/can put the Loadstar in contact with the pier.

So rather than chance a damaged camera I just wanted to initiate  the meridian flip when I reckon it is prudent.

Due to the accuracy of the 10 Micron mount I will probably not use the Active optics unit much, but as I have it I want the option, it is very effective. At present I am having some quite complicated  adapter designs machined up. This is to suit both telescopes so that I can chop and change individual components over, or remove them from the imaging train.

As I have just said to Andrew I think the answer has just been posted on the Software Bisque forum, so thanks any way for your interest.

No worries Derek - not sure I could have helped anyway, even though I use TheSky6, I use EQMOD and Sequence Generator to determine when to flip!

I seem to have stirred up a bit of a debate on the Bisque forum there have been quite a few email back and forth. With questions and thoughts between members and Daniel Bisque. I cannot test their validity as yet as I can't connect for a while to the mount. But it may not work with anything but a Paramount. So I might still not be able to force a flip with the 10Micron. I will give it a go as and when. I have ACP but not ready to use it as yet as a few things to sort out first. I have tested its connections to programs but only in a test environment using simulations.

Oh the fun to come!

Thanks Daz.
