Celestron 5se

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

New here! Eager to learn and advance ;)

Really need your advise! Choosing between CELESTRON 5SE, CELESTRON 6SE and SkyWatcher Explorer 200/1000 EQ5 PRO Synscan GoTo.
Any comments which one to choose?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to SGL. The Celestron 5SE and 6SE will be easier to set up and use due to their alt-azimuth mount and the star alignment procedure is also simpler to use than the Skywatcher Synscan. The Synscan EQ mount is more versatile than the Celestron SE mount and will accept a wider range of telescopes, so will be more future proof if you decide to purchase another telescope. If you are interested in astrophotography the EQ mount is the one you should consider because alt-azimuth mount have limitations in that respect.

The Celestron 5SE, 6SE and 8SE are all capable of being set up using their inbuilt wedge for polar alignment in EQ mode.  But the mounts are very "light duty or femma"  and subject to movement. Any of these tubes on an EQ5/6 mount would be brilliant. The optics are really good.

Only the SE4 and SE5 have the built in wedge. For the 6 and 8 mount there is an optional extra,
