Upgrading HEQ5

I'm hoping to buy the upgrade kit (for my heq5) in a few weeks. Does anyone know of a useful guide for the install as I'm sure the instructions provided won't be very helpful.

Someone will ask - do you mean HEQ5 to Synscan or are you talking about the belt drive modification to upgrade the HEQ5 which presumably already has synscan.

Suppose you could also mean adding the RA+Dec motors to a manual HEQ5 also but that tends to be a bit less common.

For HEQ5 (addition of Synscan) check Astro Baby's site, she tends to have worked on the HEQ5's a lot and has documented assorted aspects. Hopefully that would be one.

Assuming it's the upgrade HEQ5 to goto (not the belt mod) the installation instructions are online: http://www.opticalvision.co.uk/documents/167.pdf

Ant's primer (link in Cornelius Varley's post) is nice but when I did mine I found the instructions supplied were fine on their own.

It will be just the goto upgrade. No belts involved yet!
