M31 darks, flats and bias

Recommended Posts

I think I'm beginning to understand what all the fuss is concerning flats and bias. This is my third go at M31 and this time I added flats and bias. It has certainly cleaned up the image compared to the previous one.

Top image is 20 x 2 mins ISO 800 10 darks 10 flats and 10 bias.

Bottom image is the same but no flats or bias.

Both using Nikon D5300

Thanks for looking

Very good! I use GradientXTerminator in Photoshop instead of flats. It's excellent, and you can choose to colour balance with it too. I don't know if you can use it with the freeware GIMP though, if you don't have PS.
