Synscan?

I am currently have the opportunity to buy a SW EQ5 mount and RA?DEC motors, my question is if I buy a Syncscan V.3 handset what else do I need to make this a goto tracking mount?

If the motors are the basic dual axis variety then you need the full goto upgrade kit which includes replacement stepper motors (the d/a motors aren't suitable for this), a motor control board and the Synscan handset.

Yes, the goto upgrade contains a motor driver that provides the motor inputs, it is also the point that an auto guider can be plugged in later. I don't think you can bypass this and get the synscan handset directly driving the motors.

Not sure if the version 3 handset is still on sale, there might be old stock, the newer Version 4 is the current handset, i believe the only difference is the loss of the external power socket on the Version 4 so the handset can only be  powered by the mount.
