Mega data stacks

The stargazing live people did that stack of lots of images from viewers of Orion. Has anyone ever tried to stack lots of data from multiple users on a deep sky object? Surely there must be software out there which can compensate for different size images, resolutions, ratios...

Yes there have been a few projects here that involved amongst others Daz, Tim, SteveL... It was a wide field Orion that won APOD I believe.

Look up a bit of software called Registar (not Registax).
