Screen Grabs from a Meade SN10 Astrograph

After a rather unsuccessful first attempt last month with my MallinCam Xtreme in a Meade SN10 (10" f/4 Schmidt-Newtonian Astrograph), due to lousy collimation and Focal Reducer problems, I finally had a clear night last night to test the combination again with the scope Collimated perfectly and replacing the 0.58xFR with the front half of an MFR-5.

It was extremely cold. Even with my heaters running I still had to demist the corrector plate about every 20 minutes, and my Mount power socket actually froze twice stopping the mount. There was ice in the socket! Amazing how handy a Hair Dryer is

and when I was packing up my scope it was coated in thick hard ice, not frost

Anyway, here are some Screen Grabs from Last night's Live Broadcast on Night Skies Network.

Mallincam Xtreme, front half of Mallincam MFR-5, UV/IR Filter, Meade SN10, EQ6 mount :

Firstly, my set-up at Sunset, waiting for dark

plus about another 8 more

I have posted all of them in my Mallincam Video Astronomy website on the 'OTHER SCOPES - SN10' page, and in there you can see the results of my tests with this camera in other scopes too:

Thanks Davy

Excellent results, Ken. Is the front half of the MFR-5 at .8? Was the resultant FL 800mm? Very nice image scale.

Don

Thanks Don,

Yes the Front Half of the MFR-5 is 0.8x.

I can't answer as to the Focal length because I haven't worked it out. I didn't think of it

But apparently as I just found out, it's not called an 'MFR-3' as I labelled it. Apparently the front half of the MFR-5 is slightly different to the MFR-3.

So it should say something like 0.8x MFR in the description

That setup is doing a great job on the nebulae. I like the colour rendition you're achieving.

These fast Newts are really great for EAA once the collimation is sorted. I guess the focal reduction here was to get a good frame for these objects?

Martin

Thanks Martin,

but no, the focal reduction here wasn't to get a good frame. I don't particularly like this FOV.

I am a fan of wiiiiiiiiiiiiiide FOV views.

I only ended up with this FOV because if I go any more focally reduced it introduces bad coma with this scope because of its focal length.

The earlier results can be seen here with more focal reduction: http://astrovideoforum.proboards.com/thread/1137/results-meade-sn10
