May 17, 2015: Beautiful proms on the western limb

Recommended Posts

I just had a look through some tiny gaps in the clouds using the SolarMax 60, and I could make out some huge, if faint proms with some apparently detached bit high up on the western limb. On the eastern limb there is a brighter but smaller roughly triangular prom, and a few big filaments are visible to the south of it. Some bright plage areas and sunspots also dot the surface. Lots going on :), but little chance to image :(

I saw the same ones earlier Micheal quite faint , but very large. I saw a large very dark looking filament just off the center at around 8:30 it looked very different to most of the filaments showing much darker and also as if it was about to break clear. Popped in for a cofee and 2 pieces of toast, went back out 15minutes later and it had gone!
