Supernaturally superb Saturn.

Both last month and this, we've had some nights of truly fabulous seeing. We're used to transparency here, and the seeing is usually good but now I really do mean good.

By the time it was only 25 degrees above the horizon Saturn took 250x and then 312x without flinching and was rock, rock steady. (Meade 10 SCT, TeleVue Radians 10 and 8mm.) It was all there to enjoy, the banding giving that wonderful spherical look that Saturn does so well, the ring shadows on the planet, the planet shadows on the ring, hints of the C ring...  Wonderfully warm colour, too, perhaps enhanced by the low elevation.

Rumours of a clear sky here tonight so will see how it compares from UK skies or should that be Yucky skies

-20 so not expecting too much.

Dave

Not too far from you Dave, but unfortunately just a few miles north of Gatwick's mighty glow.  Very new to this, but looking at Stellarium it doesn't seem Saturn is going to get very high (20-23 deg above the horizon) during dark hours from home this year, so may struggle especially with that LP...
