New to Astrophotography. Stacking software?

I have been planning to purchase either ASI120MM for planetary photography or with a DSLR Nikon D3200 that I would try and capture the the galaxy in low polluted areas of my state along with whatever landscape that is available around it. 

But I ask what programs do you guys use to stack these images? Is there anything else I need to install onto my system to improve photo quality?

Deep Sky Stacker is my normal choice for dslr photos, it's free,  I also use Imagesplus but you need to pay for that one.

Registax or Autostakkert for planetary.

DSS for long exposure DS stacking which is free, or Nebulosity and Astroart which are paid for.

PIPP can be useful for converting files as well. (free) A general photo enhancement program like Photoshop or Paintshop can be useful or GIMP (free). Astra Image (also free).
