help with my canon 550d and sdcard?

I was out last night trying to capture some meteors and noticed that when i took longexposures of say 30secs the camera was "busy" forabout the same time, eg 30secs...

the sd card i used is a integral ultima pro X, 60mb/s write speed supposedly,class 10

is this normal?

i wanted to take 30 secs with a few second gap so as not to miss any meteors that may pass over

You had long exposure noise reduction turned on in the camera so it was taking a second exposure the same as the first and then doing an in  camera dark frame subtraction...

Have you got noise reduction switched on in the menus?  If so it will take a dark as long again as the sub.

Have you got the long exp noise reduction switched on? this will take an additional dark frame of the same exposure as the normal frame.

Problem then is that you have an exposure of 30 sec, an NR exposure of 30 sec so that makes in effect a 60 second exposure.

Yoiu then really need to to allow the sensor to cool for another 60 seconds.

So your 30 second exposure takes 120 seconds. :eek:

that's another thing CCD owners don't suffer from a huge range of buttons to alter.....
