ISS closeup - 11th April 2015

Recommended Posts

Following Fay's superb capture of the ISS, I thought I'd have a go and, crikey, I was surprised at the result.

The ISS was passing virtually overhead at 21:37 tonight. I fitted my Canon 700d to my 250mm Newtonian and followed the Station through the finder and fired the Canon on continuous shutter mode. I missed it frequently due to its speed of passage, but managed a couple of half-decent captures including this one, 1/2000 second exposure @ 800 ISO. A different angle from Fay's result, so the solar panels are less visible.

I've tried it unsuccessfully before with a planetary cam, but the bigger sensor of the DSLR makes it much easier to keep it in the field of view.
