Thanks Alan, yes i am lucky up here on the outskirts of the furtherst northern town in northumberland, pretty good dark skies. I have quite a good location to observe from which is massively encouraging as a beginner. I am really enjoying it and learning a little more each time. Every day is a school day!

Congrats on the new UHC. When wondering about which nebulae to observe with it, its worth remembering:

If you can see a nebula with your scope (M42), then a UHC filter is useful for enhancing the view. If you cant see a nebula with your scope (The Rosette,The Veil), then an OIII filter is useful for making them visible.

In other words UHC makes the visible more visible and OIII makes the invisible, visible.

Also, there are probably more UHC targets then there are OIII, but dont quote me on that.

Paul,

thanks for that, youve broken it down to its simplest term. Easier to understand now!

Al

No worries. When i was pondering which filter to buy (UHC or OIII) someone here broke it down to me like i did to you. Made it understandable for me. I still couldnt decide which to buy, so i bought both. I bought the Skywatcher ones from FLO. I think they were about £30 each. Convert that to euros and i paid about 70-80 euros. They work really well for me. Great investment as i am a bit of a nebulae fan.

Paul,

i didnt have a clue which one to get. Uhc oiii cls moon and sky and so on, red loads of reviews asked loads of daft questions.

I decided on stl in the end only because i was impressed with service and ep and just took a punt.

I will end up getting more.

This filter along with all other premium and specialist filters have been significantly reduced at Skys the limit, this is now 36£,

for me it was a brilliant purchase.

worth a punt!

Reduced to £36?

I dont think i even paid £36 when i bought my Skywatchers from FLO (think they cost £30 each). Sure, add in shipping, conversion rates etc and i paid about £80 (for 2 filters and shipping and VAT). Just checked and my filters on FLO cost £39 each now. I thought they were a few quid cheaper a couple yrs back when i bought them.

Maybe not.
