What magnification needed for solar viewing?

I got a set of 15x70 Celestron binoculars, and was thinking about putting solar filters on them, but I was wondering if 15x magnification enough to observe sun spots?

Not right now, there are a few small spots on the visible surface....but when the BIG ones come back they are almost naked eye, so the x15 binos will certainly help.

Exactly! As the Sun & Moon are able to block each other out, as shown by a total eclipse, the same magnification of the Moon will have about the same effect on the Sun. Just be certain you have a good solar-filter in place. The damage to the eye from even a glimpse of the Sun through a scope - without a good filter - happens in a micro-second. And doesn't go away.
