Hi

Well i have been out with my scope a handful of times since i got it for Christmas but tonight was the first time I was able to get it all set up and 2 star aligned successfully.

I was over the moon when I selected Jupiter and it proceeded to slew to the object, I was even happier when I looked through the eyepiece and it was near as damn it in the centre.  I was happy with the view but remembered the Baader Moon & Starlight filter i brought so i took out the 30mm Vixen npl and attached the filter and was blown away to see Jupiter and 4 Moons :)

I was so happy that i pulled out my phone to call Mum out to see the view (yes i still live at home) only for the skies to cloud over and pelt me and my equipment with hail stones. I jumped up took off my scarf and covered the scope the best i could quickly shut the EP case and legged it inside to find something more substantial to bring the scope in under.

Although the session was ruined by the hail I am still delighted that i managed to get a good view of Jupiter even though the moon was so bright, think that filter was well worth the money.

Sounds like a great first session...and a taste of things to come, especially the weather!

Seeing the planets 'for real' and not just on TV or the web is always a thrill.

Just wait till you get your first sight of Saturn....that will blow your socks into orbit!

Great report Adam, there is nothing like seeing these sights live with your own gear and not something fed to you by TV/internet.

Good luck for your next observing session.

BTW don't ignore the moon, there is loads to see there.
