Moonlite focuser serial cable question please

The serial (RS232??) cable that connects my Moonlite focuser to the hand controller is too short and I am looking on line for  longer one but there appears to be two kinds - straight through and crossover

Anyone know which is the correct one or how to tell from the original one with a multimeter ???

I know it isnt used as a serial cable - its effectively being used as the power cable for the focuser.

If it helps its wired like this image - but I still don't know if that's a straight through or crossover !!!

Looks like straight through, no reason for it to be crossover, sometimes printed on the cable if it's crossover.

Thanks Dave - will order one and check its the same with a multimeter before I fit it - I should hate to blow up a brand new stepper motor !!!

here's the pinout, color of wire from RJ12 end, to DB 9 pin number

yellow to pin 1
blue to pin 2
red to pin 3
green to pin 4
black to pin 5
white to pin 9

also works with robofocus motors. I've also done the optec DB 9 connector if anyone's interested its

yellow to pin 5
blue to pin 6
gree to pin 8
red top in 7
black to pin 2
white to pin 2

Hi Billy,

This is the pinout for a crossover type cable.

And the top half of this is a straight through (ignore the lower right hand connector.)

I would suspect that yours needs the straight through type but the original cable may not have every pin connected if you test it with a multimeter... they would only use the pins they required.

I am glad you found the answer. I just wrote them today about the same question except that mine is too long and I want to get a shorter one. I control it using SGP and don't need the cable coiled up on top of my scope where it is already pretty crowded. Where is your source for DB9 type straight through cables?
