Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy snapped!

Recommended Posts

If there's a prize for the poorest quality image of Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy I will surely win it!

Nevertheless I'm happy just to snap it.

There was no way I was going to set up telescope and equipment at 1.00am  in the sub-zero temperatures of Little Paxton, Cambridgeshire, UK last night, but when I spotted it through the mist and light pollution of nearby St Neots for the first time last night through 15 X 70 binoculars I knew I had to give it a try. I held the camera (Nikon D60) out the bedroom window and rested it on the sill and rattled off a couple of 10 - 15 second exposures while balancing a 2" light pollution filter on the lens. It worked!

Just....

(By the way, I don't normally wear a headlamp in the bedroom, that was to search for the bins which were at the back of the shed)
