Focal Reducer for Celestron Nexstar 8 SE

It's a flattener-reducer, to be precise. Beware of using it visually. It will not open out the field any more than a widefield 2 inch EP with 2 inch back. If you already have these then the baffle tube will impose the final field stop.

Reducer/Corrector f/6.3 

This combination focal reducer and field corrector lens accessory works with all Celestron 5", 8", 9 1/4", 11" and 14" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. This clever accessory makes it possible to have a dual focal ratio instrument, without sacrificing image quality. The Reducer/Corrector is f/6.3 for C5, C8, C9¼ and C11 telescopes and f/7 for the C14 telescope. 

If offers wide fields of view with any Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. Used for astrophotography, it reduces exposure time by a factor of 3. Then you have a fully corrected "rich field" with a diameter of 24 mm, free of vignetting.

Celestron doesn’t offer a f/6.3 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, because the design is impractical, with a large central obstruction, and resulting loss in contrast. This, added to the inability to utilize longer focal ratios for certain objects, led Celestron to design the four-element, fully multicoated f/6.3 Reducer/Corrector. Results are amazing both visually and photographically.

Thanks for the advice guys, I know this reducer will fit onto the XLT Celestrons but not sure it will fit on the SE series. Has anyone fitted this reducer onto a SE as I want to my 8SE on a VX mount for astro.

Hey Pat.

I have the Celestron Evolution 6" (i think its nearly identical to the SE version, just the mount is new) and i have that flattener/reducer. I highly suspect it will also work for the SE as the threading is the same.

Not sure about 8" though.

yes it will work the c8 is the same ota  across the ranges except for the edge version

The Celestron 6.3 reducer works perfectly on my 8SE. I use it for imaging with a DSLR camera.
