Auriga star fields

I spent a little time last night with the bino's after my imaging session was interrupted by cloud and the only open sky was around Auriga, I scanned back and fourth and came across a delightful starfield which held my attention for some time, I noted it's position and this morning found it on a star atlas, I had been looking at the stars surrounding the flaming star nebulae, although I couldn't see any nebulae through the binocula's the stars were just a wonderful sight to gaze at.

That's an entertaining area, Neil, with Melotte 31 the Minnow and the Cheshire Cat asterisms. I have to say I've not observed the nebula either despite trying in the past. Dark skies required for that one. The wandering variable AE Auriga at its heart is interesting as it has migrated from Orion.

I love auriga its one of my favorite constellations to  sweep around

Auriga is one of my favourite areas to observe. With bins you wont see any Nebulae, but you will see the stars within (which if i remember correctly are called "The Children"). 

Using a scope and an OIII (or UHC) filter, you will detect the flaming star nebula.

Waiting for the Geminids last night I looked up at Auriga. With an ancient pair of 8x30's , I managed to get all three clusters in the fov. Just haven't decided which one is favourite. Pleased to see them all,
