Where are the Blinkin' Images?

Recommended Posts

If you'll forgive a little semi-levity: As early the 60s, I have always been impressed by pictures of (likely) Percival Lowell, at his "Blink Microsope" - Doubtless discovering Pluto! In these modern times, I wondered if anyone had TRIED to use or imagine(!) software (or even just taken image pairs) to reveal "transient" phenomena? Perhaps more realistically to reveal the motions of a minor planet? Just Wondering... I'd be genuinely impressed though!

Chris,

The piece of kit you are thinking of is a blink comparator. Just pop this phrase into google and theres lots of freeware out there just waiting to be downloaded. Oh and by the way Clive Tombaugh discovered Pluto while working at the Lowell observatory.

Thanks for that, Archie. As so often (LOL), I think I'm a little way off the practicalities, but sense it might be of use to someone - Who knows, me too one day! And, as someone who now dabbles, I enjoy the "imaging progress" stuff from "kindred spirits" generally... ;)
