Solar filter for 180mm Mak

Hi all.

Do any of you use a professionally made full aperture solar filter made with Baader solar film?

I'm trying to find one the correct size but I'm not having any luck. I know they can be home-made from a sheet of the film, but I'm happier only making smaller filters and think I'd mess up a larger one.

I wonder if one of these will fit your Mak, but i think i would be happy to make one using the Baader film

i use Seven oaks glass one on my frac Ant.Picked up one on fleebay for peanuts  

FLO do the film ones for your scope for 48 quid or get a glass one from Rother Valley optics for about 70 odd quid.

Or man up and make one

Heh, yes I've done the Blue Peter job before, Gaidis, and they were ok... but if I mess a 180mm one it's a whole sheet of film wasted! I prefer Baader Solar Film to glass ones too for some reason. I suppose I could order up the model for the 8" and pad the mounting points a bit...

If you were to make one i think i would drop the diameter down to about 165mm, to give a good support to the film

I think they are nylon screws Ant on those filters,shouldn't damage or leave marks on your scope.

Ant ,I went diy.

Here's my effort. I was worried I'd mess it up but it was easy really! Works well.

It's held on with tape and the dew shied for extra security.
