A Galaxy with the Canon 350D

O.K. So it doesn't leap out of the frame but the smudge in the middle is NGC 2903 and I was very chuffed that it showed up at all! Single 25 sec. exposure @ f5.6 with zoom lens on 300 mm,ISO 800.

Also went for some open clusters and 2nd image is of M44 same settings but an 8 sec. exposure this time. Both frames have had the orange LP removed in Photoshop and have been reduced in size to permit upload.

CW, very nice shots indeed. The Beehive looks great, and you can clearly make out the Galaxy in the middle. How zoomed were you ? I don't have a canon, so I'm not certain what sort of optical magnification the 300mm lens gives.

The lens was at 300 mm setting but I haven't worked out the actual magnification I'm afraid.
