Double near M81

Never noticed this before, maybe it is an aperture thing, but when I was looking at M81 last night I noticed a very nice little double nearby.

Just thought I'd mention it as it has escaped my attention before.

Perhaps it is an aperture thing, I believe the apparent magnitude of SAO 15018 is 10.5 - making it a tricky candidate for smaller scopes.

There are a couple close by

STF1386 & STF1387

I would guess you saw 1387 as 1386 is quite tight at 2.1"

Thanks Ian. Yes, it was an easy enough split so I guess it was 1387. Will have a look for 1386 next time, the scope should split it ok.

STF 1387 stands out quite nicely in widefield with STF 1386 nearby.

When I image this area my eye is drawn towards this double.

When I get a chance it will be nice to try and split 1386, both imaging and visually.

Had a look at this tonight, got a split at x150 made a nice double/double

Got these two pairs nicely last night in the 150ED. The tighter pair split very nicely. Thanks for pointing it out Ian.

has any one split sao 97645 its a triple system, i could only get 2 last night not the 3rd

tried up to 260x on the tight pair, but still couldnt confirm it, the other 2 were easy

I think John has had some success with splitting doubles down at that sort of separation with his 12" scope I believe.
