Congrats - I'm waiting on Ian's next shipment for the same thing, due early February apparently.

I agonised over the real estate of the 683 versus the 690, but decided it would have to be mosaics for me if I start looking at the wrong size targets!

I could only afford Astrodon LRGB and 3nm Ha by buying from the US (any others will have to wait).  I'll pick them up in a couple of weeks when I'm next over in the US - saves me £200 on UK prices ... which is a minor consolation in the big scheme of things, given the price of what I've just spent!

The new QSI 690 looks the business - quantum efficiency of 75%, pixels of 3.69uM and chips size 50% greater than the Atik 460 - looks like a great buy. I look forward to seeing the images!

Martin

The Atik 460 and 490 have the same chip sizes, just different numbers and sizes of pixels.  Similarly for the QSI 660 and 690.

Anyone else got one?

mine arrived but not had chance to do anything as bad skies and too much day work to do :(  I went for 5nm filters as the skies here are really not that good

  • 3 weeks later...

So with an hour of clear skies I tried The QSI 690 with the 3nm Ha Astrondon Filter

Elephant Nebula From Stratford London
Date 09/02/2014
10min x 3 Ha Sub
QSI 690 CCD Skywatcher Espirt 100ED

Tracking not so good and it was a rushed setup

This was my first little test before the clouds came in and also was Lunar phase of Waxing Gibbous.

Second Image was a quick test of the luminance Filter at the Bodes

Remember moon out

2 x 1 minute sub at 1x1 BIN

Both images are without Darks, Bias or Flats

I don't like in a dark area, if fact you barely see the big dipper

Enjoy
