Orion Widefiled 50mm

Hello,

Just a quick widefield of Orion last night with my new lens!

Camera: 1000D (un-modded)

Lens: Pentax-M SMC 50mm F1.4 @ F2.8

Mount: Astrotrac

ISO: 800

Light pollution filter

127 Subs @ 30 seconds

27 Darks

Processing in Photoshop

The moon was at 88% and Orion was situated over Chester at the time so my sky fog would only allow 30 seconds on the above settings before the histogram was being pushed way over to the right.

Quite a bad gradient which has mostly been removed but still slight in the image. Also pushed the photograph a bit further than normal just to help bring out the fainter flame nebula which consequently pushed up the noise!

Hopefully I can get myself out to my local dark site with this lens soon and go for some nice long 2+ minute exposures on the above settings.

Yes, nice one. You can just make out the Horsehead Nebula too as Lee says.

Cheers! Just modded a canon 1000D so really hoping this weather clears soon and I can get out to my nearest dark site to see what difference it makes!
