ultramol
Can anyone tell me if they have any information on an Orion xt 10 i telescope. Seen one for sale and I think I may be interested. I have googled it obviously but I know I can trust the views of SGL members rather than makers propaganda..Thanks in advance...Geoff
John
Orion (USA) use the same maufacturer as Skywatcher do so the optics and much else about the scope will be the same as the Skywatcher Skyliner 250PX dobsonians. The XTi's include Orions Intelliscope system which is "Push to" rather than GOTO but has a good reputation.Orion branded scopes tend to be a bit more expensive than their Skywatcher counterparts in the UK. ultramol
Cheers John for your prompt reply. I presume they will track for photography will they ?
Peter Drew
I have a 6" and 8" Orion XTi, both are excellent optically and the "push to" goto is great but these scopes do not track, you still have to push them like other non GOTO Dobsonians. NGC 1502
Cheers John for your prompt reply. I presume they will track for photography will they ?Even if a Dob does track, you will get 'field rotation' http://www.stargazing.net/yizen/fieldrotation.html unless you use an equatorial platform, goes between the Dob mount and the ground.Regards, Ed. John
As said above, the Orion XTi's are manually driven and don't track. Tracking dobs are helpful for visual but don't really make them suitable for astrophotography.
