Light pollution filters?

Recommended Posts

I don't use it for light pollution but I think that baader neodymium does a decent job. I have seen images with and without of certain types of street lamp and the difference is dramatic.

a dark sky will make more difference as would more aperture.

Google "David Knisely light pollution filter"

Although he focuses on other types, he has addressed this question...maybe mostly at Cloudy Nights? The neodymium mentioned above...I'd never even heard of this til joining here and am gonna have to look into it.

Just keep in mind that the effective filters (UHC and OIII) will cut out a lot of light and decrease the magnification potential of your scope. You won't get much past 7x to 10x per inch so don't expect powers greater than 30x. You'll find the filters useful for the larger nebulae (e.g. Veil, N. America, and larger Sag. nebulae) but not much else.
