Naemeth
More OTAs, I know...I'm getting a HEQ-5 soon, and I was just wondering, what size SCT can I get away with for planetary imaging? (for deep sky I'll have the ED66 / ED80)C6? C8? C9.25?
Cornelius Varley
The 6" & 8" should be OK (the 8" weighs about the same as a 6" mak), the 9" might just be pushing the upper limit a bit for imaging.

Ant
I have a HEQ5, and owned a C9.25.I managed 5 and 10 minute subs without too many issues, but I wouldn't go any higher. I had a settled garden then so didn't suffer with the effect of wind too much. If it's a windy night I suspect it would show up quite quickly.CheersAnt
Naemeth
The 8" SCT it is I think. Can't hurt to put the HEQ-5 under less stress, can it? Thanks for the help everyone .
